What is Black light Puppetry!?

This month at the Burnhamthorpe Library we will be hosting a special guest for our T.A.G. meeting: Black light puppeteer, creator and talented puppetry performer Priscilla Lawrence!!

She will be looking for interested teens who want to learn to perform under black light and gain confidence with their technical and performing skills on the stage.

If you have never had the priviledge of seeing Black light puppetry in action here's a peek of what kind of wonders to expect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUClDu9eKD8

This kind of puppetry is done in a completely dark room with blacklights and flourescent paint.

Amazing!!!!!

The date for this gathering for TAG members and other interested teens is February 23rd at Burnhamthorpe Library at 5:00pm in the program room.

Board Games at Burnhamthorpe (in Partnership with X Planet Games)!!!

..and with the quick throw of the dice, the gaming event hosted at the Burnhamthorpe Library's by the fellow members of the library's very own Teen Advisory Group (namely T.A.G.) had begun. The gaming event, that was held in partnership with X Planet Games on the 26th of November 2011, was an exceptional event to promote the endless oppportunities offered by the local library for it's community. The event was the very hub of enthusiasm as youth a children gathered together to experience and experiment with the possibilities of the day that awaited them.

In a fine frenzy of activity, the gamers relentlessly dealt with the odds stacked against them. They battled with fantastical creatures of Smallworld; heroically combatted their enemies in Tsuro and even intelligently overcame the cluster of obstacles strewn in their paths as the Settlers of Catan. For a touch of hilarity they readily engaged themselves over hands of Apples to Apples, a funny word based card game that required fine acts of improvisation.

The afternoon was a success!! and given the valiant efforts of the library's very own T.A.G. group, a talented ensemble of do-gooders who strive to plan and promote events for the good of the community. Armed with numerous skills, this canny bunch of teenagers were responsible for the organization, careful planning an execution of this event. With pointers and input from the library staff, the teen advisors contributed greatly to the eventual success of this event. For the children involved and the youth hosting it was a precious opportunity to re-live their childhood, while recounting the joy of pure childish fun! It was a memorable afternoon of amusement and games for all!
